He does not lend out money at interest, nor does he take bribes. It was common practice in ancient economies to charge extortionist interest rates. God had not rescued his people from slavery in Egypt only to let them fall into a new type of domestic slavery. The laws given in Exodus 22:25, Leviticus 25:35–38, and Deuteronomy 23:19–20 were there to protect the people against such practices. The Israelites were not to oppress each other financially.
The blameless—he who bears the characteristics of Psalm 15:1–5—shall never be moved. This does not mean that the believer will be spared all hardships in life. However, it does mean that God will be with him, whatever happens. The righteous will always be assured of the safe home he has in God’s presence.
