What deception is in view?

1 Thessalonians 2:3 (ESV)

3 For our appeal does not spring from error or impurity or any attempt to deceive,

The word used here refers to the use of falsehood and deception in order to lure someone into a particular belief or course of action.1 A prime example of such deceit would be the flattery mentioned in 1 Thessalonians 2:5.
