How does the prohibition against eating blood differ from the prohibition against eating fat?

Leviticus 7:26 (ESV)

26 Moreover, you shall eat no blood whatever, whether of fowl or of animal, in any of your dwelling places.

While the prohibition against the eating of animal fat is restricted to sacrificial animals, the prohibition against eating the blood of animals is universal.
