Jeremiah 8:1–22 (ESV)

1 “At that time, declares the LORD, the bones of the kings of Judah, the bones of its officials, the bones of the priests, the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the inhabitants of Jerusalem shall be brought out of their tombs.

In Jeremiah 8 the fact that the people do not repent is central. The emphasis is on the fact that this is incomprehensible. Why do the people act like this? Jeremiah uses an image to illustrate this: if you fall, you get up again. This is normal. If you take a wrong way, you return. Everyone understands this. But these people simply refuse to get up or to return. In other words, they have no repentance. The Lord cannot understand this. They had everything with him!
