Nebucadnetsar exprime sa confiance en Daniel. Il l’appelle à nouveau par le nom de Beltschatsar. Il sait par expérience que cet homme est vraiment en contact avec Dieu. Si personne ne peut expliquer le rêve, Daniel pourra le faire. Une fois de plus, on voit que le roi ne croit pas en l’Éternel comme seul Dieu. Il pense encore à d’autres dieux avec lesquels Daniel serait en contact.
