She was the queen of Sheba, to whom Jesus now compares his audience in Matthew 12:42. She had made a journey from the far end of the world (at least the known world at the time) just to come to listen to the wisdom of Solomon (1 Kings 10:1–13). Sheba probably lay to the southwest of the Arabian peninsula (where Yemen is today).1
42 The queen of the South will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, something greater than Solomon is here.
