Acknowledging Christ as Lord

2 Pierre 2:1–3 (NEG79)

The idea that we can choose which areas of our lives will be lived in submission to Christ whilst at the same time still enjoying the fruits of salvation is an attractive message which garners many followers. However, it is not the truth of Scripture and as such it is a message that leads to judgment.

Peter makes it very clear that these heretics and those who follow them will face God’s judgment. Even if they deny that Christ will come as judge, his return is certain. Judgment delayed does not mean judgment is not coming. Jesus is Lord and Saviour (2 Peter 1:2, 2 Peter 1:11). Those who deny him as Lord (2 Peter 2:1) will face him in judgment. There is no salvation where there is no repentance (recognition of the Lordship of Christ) and faith.
