He is glad and emotional. He exclaims, “I have indeed built you an exalted house, a place for you to dwell in forever” (1 Kings 8:13). He says it very emphatically, “I built.” Some interpreters think that it is arrogant for Solomon to cry out, “I have built for you,” but I hear more joy and emotion in it than arrogance.
