In those two Bible books we see two pictures of Solomon. 1 Kings shows two sides of Solomon. There is his glory, but also his sin and apostasy. 2 Chronicles paints a picture without dark colors. It is all radiant glory that you see. The author of Chronicles assumes that the books 1 and 2 Kings are known and emphasizes the glory of God’s kingdom.
In 1 Kings 3 we see an example of this difference between 1-2 Kings and 1-2 Chronicles. The first thing that is recounted is the marriage of Solomon with the princess from Egypt. It shows us something of the (international) fame of Solomon. But it is also an ominous sign, especially when you compare what God had said in Deuteronomy 17:16. Solomon takes a risk: can he handle this?
