1 Peter 1:1–2 forms the introduction to Peter’s letter. It consists of three parts:
The name of the writer of the letter
An identification of the recipients of this letter
A word of greeting
This three-part structure is characteristic of most New Testament letters and runs parallel to how letters were commonly structured at that time.
