Comfort when losing a child

2 Samuel 12:24–25 (NEG79)

24 David consola Bath-Schéba, sa femme, et il alla auprès d'elle et coucha avec elle. Elle enfanta un fils qu'il appela Salomon, et qui fut aimé de l'Eternel.

Let us realize first how deep the pain is as David said: He will not return to me. Grieving is the feeling that your child is no longer here and will not return.

When you comfort, remember that you cannot solve the problem. Comfort means that you speak about God’s promises. That is the comfort of the covenant: I will go to him, says David (2 Samuel 12:23). We will meet again when we will be with the Lord. That is comfort. Great is the covenant. Great is God’s faithfulness who saves from death. That is David’s confession in Psalm 16:1–11. And through Peter, the Holy Spirit also explains in Acts 2:22–33 that Psalm 16:1–11 is about the resurrection of Jesus and all who believe in him.
