There existed great problems in the Corinthian church, many of which were related to their distorted understanding of spiritual gifts. In chapters 12—14, Paul will deal extensively with spiritual gifts. Yet, in this verse, he already lays the foundation for a proper perspective on spiritual gifts. The Corinthians should know that they are not lacking in any spiritual gift.
Through their knowledge of Christ and the gospel, they possess everything they need.
Moreover, this knowledge causes them to fix their eyes on the future day of Christ’s return.
