Esdras 7:1–28 (NEG79)

1 Après ces choses, sous le règne d'Artaxerxès, roi de Perse, vint Esdras, fils de Seraja, fils d'Azaria, fils de Hilkija,

Ezra 7:1–28 begins with a time reference, telling us that we are now in the reign of Artaxerxes king of Persia (Ezra 7:1). We are then introduced to Ezra and given extensive details about his genealogy (Ezra 7:1–6), and are also briefly told about a second group of people who travelled from Babylon to Jerusalem (Ezra 7:7–10). Then we find a letter from King Artaxerxes in which he grants lots of resources and authority to Ezra (Ezra 7:11–26). Finally, the chapter ends with a personal reflection and thanksgiving (Ezra 7:27–28).
