Judges 5:4–5 depicts the journey of the Lord from his mountain home in Sinai, in the Arabian Peninsula, to Israel, via Mount Seir in Edom. From the south to the east and then into the Promised Land. This parallels Israel’s own journey into the Promised Land. This invites the reader to see the Lord's current victory over Jabin in the light of his previous battles on Israel’s behalf, throughout the whole campaign to remove the other nations from Israel. It is an invitation to God’s people to meditate on and sing about the faithfulness of the Lord who goes before them into battle.
