Commentary on Proverbs 18:12 (Summary)

Proverbes 18:12 (NEG79)

12 Avant la ruine, le cœur de l'homme s'élève;Mais l'humilité précède la gloire.

As Nebuchadnezzar was standing on the roof of his palace, he said, Is not this great Babylon, which I have built by my mighty power as a royal residence and for the glory of my majesty? (Daniel 4:30). Immediately he lost his sanity and became like an animal, eating grass from the fields. On the other hand, the humble Daniel moved from being an exiled boy to being the vice-regent of Babylon.

Throughout Scripture, we learn that God opposes the proud but favours the humble. That is why pride leads to “destruction,” while humility leads to “honour.”
