In the Bible, “peace” is not simply the absence of conflict. It is the fullness of life under God’s kingship. Whoever lives and speaks in the light of God’s kingship is promoting true peace. Such a person will often experience fierce resistance from the side of those who rebel against God, who “plot evil.” After all, Jesus came to bring true peace, not peace as the world understands it (Matthew 10:34). In spite of resistance, there is great joy for those who promote true peace. Such people are called “blessed” (Matthew 5:9).
