En bref

Matthew writes about brothers and sisters of Jesus, as well as his mother Mary, both here in Matthew 12:46 and in Matthew 13:55–56 (see also Mark 3:31–35, Luke 8:19–21, John 2:1–12,John 7:3–5,John 19:25–27), but Joseph is not seen in any of the Gospels after the narratives of Jesus’ birth and childhood. By the time Jesus began his public ministry, he had likely already died.

The evangelist Matthew writes about brothers and sisters of Jesus—as well as his mother Mary, not only here in Matthew 12:46 but also in Matthew 13:55–56 (see also Mark 3:31–35; Luke 8:19–21; John 2:1–12, John 19:25–27). Joseph, however, is not encountered again in any of the Gospels after the brief narratives of Jesus’ birth and childhood. It is likely that by the time Jesus began his public ministry, he had already died.1
