  2. Explication du texte

Did Jesus heal the demon-oppressed man who was blind and mute from the demon also?

Matthieu 12:22 (NEG79)

22 Alors on lui amena un démoniaque aveugle et muet, et il le guérit, de sorte que le muet parlait et voyait.

En bref

Jesus healed all three afflictions—blindness, deafness, and demon possession—all without being able to speak to him, or use sign language to communicate with him.

Yes, the man brought to Jesus was an exceptional case. He simultaneously suffered from three handicaps and appeared untreatable. He could not see Jesus, so no visual sign language could reach him. He could not hear, so spoken words were useless. Finally, he was also possessed by a demon, which meant he could not even respond to touch. The healer had, humanly speaking, no gap to reach or liberate him. In this way he is uniquely different from every other blind, deaf, or demon-possessed person that Jesus had healed. Matthew 12:22 describes not merely three separate afflictions, but a man utterly unreachable for healing. That is why this miracle is so great and unique: Jesus breaks through all these barriers at once, drives out the demon, and in a single act opens every gateway to the outside world—so that the man can immediately both see and hear.1
