En bref

Jesus continued doing miracles to save lives, healing all the sick who followed him, but he chose to bind himself to our weaknesses and so withdrew himself, because it was not yet time to be honoured by the masses as the messianic King or to be involved in conflict with the very ones he had come to save (see Isaiah 42:2): withdrawing from quarrels, but not from human need.

Jesus was able to continue conducting miracle upon miracle to save lives, yet he chose to bind himself to our shortcomings and as such withdrew himself. He did this because he had not yet come to be honoured by the masses as the messianic King, and because he wished to avoid difficulties and disputes with the very people he had come to save (see Isaiah 42:2). Jesus withdrew from quarrels, but not from human need. The sick followed him, and he healed them all. Yet in the episode recorded here in Matthew 12:1–50 the time had not yet arrived for Jesus to reveal himself with the fame and glory of the messianic King. He never sought celebrity status and did not wish to be known merely as a miracle worker.1
