Jesus healed the man’s hand—the hand that had been withered and so could not be stretched out, yet Jesus asked for an act of faith. The man stretched out his hand, thus showing his trust in him and his power to heal, so his hand was restored to health. As the man’s Lord, Jesus can command the handicapped man to do that which is impossible: Stretch out your hand.
As divine benefactor, he commands recovery, so the hand was restored, healthy like the other.
Jesus settled the dispute by healing the man’s hand—the very hand that had been withered and therefore could not be stretched out. Yet Jesus specifically asked for an act of faith. The man stretched out his hand, thereby showing that he trusted in him and in his power to heal, and so his hand was restored to health.1
As the man’s Lord, Jesus can even command the handicapped man to do that which is impossible: Stretch out your hand.
