Jesus thanks God for having hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children
(see Daniel 2:19–23), referring to the sending of the Son to bring salvation. Jesus had already spoken of the wisdom of God’s plan at this time (Matthew 11:10–15, Matthew 11:19b): sending John first (Matthew 11:3) and then Jesus with the miraculous signs of the kingdom (Matthew 11:4–6). The two men’s revelation is what has been hidden from the wise and learned, but revealed even to little children.
Jesus thanks God for having hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children
(see Daniel 2:19–23). These things
refers to the sending of the Son of God to bring salvation on earth. Jesus had already spoken in detail about the wisdom of God in sending the Angel of the covenant at this decisive moment (Matthew 11:10–15,Matthew 11:19b). God sent John with the message of the Coming One (Matthew 11:3), and he sent Jesus with the signs and miracles of the kingdom (Matthew 11:4–6). The revelation of John and Jesus together constitutes God’s revelation. These are the things now brought to light, and which prompt Jesus to give thanks to the Father. They are hidden from the wise and learned, but by God’s grace even revealed to little children.1
25 En ce temps-là, Jésus prit la parole, et dit: Je te loue, Père, Seigneur du ciel et de la terre, de ce que tu as caché ces choses aux sages et aux intelligents, et de ce que tu les as révélées aux enfants.
