The rich man's failure to follow Jesus, and Jesus' response to it, has deeply affected the master's disciples. They became aware again that they had indeed responded to Jesus' call. Peter then said, We have left everything we had in order to follow you
(see Luke 5:11; also Mark 1:18ff.). This exclamation also contains surprise. How could they do such a thing? It was undoubtedly because of Jesus' powerful voice. They could not resist their Lord. It was as if God was working with them in a special way. They were doing what was humanly impossible. It was God who created possibilities for them. And then they took action and followed Jesus. God is able to achieve all these things in a person.
