Tradition places Sodom and Gomorrah just north of Edom to the south of the Dead Sea.1 The ancient, well-known account of the destruction of these two cities in Genesis is used here as a pattern to describe the disaster that was coming to Edom.2 This analogy also makes it abundantly clear that the disaster coming to Edom is as a result of the Lord’s judgment.
