No reasons are given in the oracle for the Lord’s judgment. There is no mention of retribution for any actions against Judah. No explicit description of idolatry. The Philistines did resist Babylonian rule and so it seems that this oracle serves firstly as evidence that the Lord is sovereign and those who oppose his purposes will not prevail. It also serves as a warning to Judah that the Lord will indeed carry out his word. In many ways, Judah is no different from the Philistines. They too have resisted Nebuchadnezzar, the Lord’s servant. Judah chose to ignore this warning and faced the same consequences.
