  2. Explication du texte

Why does the King, the Lord of hosts, declare that one like Tabor and Carmel shall come?

Jérémie 46:18 (NEG79)

18 Je suis vivant! dit le roi, Dont l'Eternel des armées est le nom;Comme le Thabor parmi les montagnes, Comme le Carmel qui s'avance dans la mer, il viendra.

The Lord speaks. He is the real King who rules over all other kings and nations. He rules over Nebuchadnezzar, who, the Lord says, will rise like Tabor among the mountains and like Carmel by the sea. Both Tabor and Carmel stood out in their locations and dominated the landscape. In the same way Nebuchadnezzar would tower over Egypt in his power.1 Nebuchadnezzar is not actually named, because ultimately it is the Lord, the real King, who is rising up against Egypt.
