If God can make children out of stones, why did Jesus not turn stones into bread when tempted to do so?

God can make stones into Abraham’s children (Matthew 3:9), but Jesus did imitate his Father’s ability to transform stones, because part of his mission was to rely on his Father’s provision.
God can indeed make children from stones (Matthew 3:9), and as such could easily turn stones into loaves of bread. Jesus, being God, is of course able to do the same. Yet he does not allow himself to be persuaded to use his power for his own desire to bring this struggle in the wilderness, where he had been led by the Spirit, to a premature end.1
