The Hebrew word raḥamim is derived from a word related to the womb, which describes the tender caring love of a mother (see also Psalm 103:15; Isaiah 49:15).1 This is the word’s only occurrence in Lamentations. It always appears in the plural form, depicting the abounding nature of God’s care.2
