1. Lamentations 1:12 (NEG79)
  2. Explication du texte

What is conveyed in the expression “if there is any sorrow like my sorrow”?

Lamentations 1:12 (NEG79)

12 Je m'adresse à vous, à vous tous qui passez ici! Regardez et voyez s'il est une douleur pareille à ma douleur, A celle dont j'ai été frappée! L'Eternel m'a affligée au jour de son ardente colère.

With this expression, Jerusalem is trying to explain the uniqueness of her sorrow to anyone passing by. While other cities have also endured the terror of the Babylonian army, Jerusalem’s sorrow is different in that she realised that her sorrow was inflicted on her by the Lord her covenant God (see Lamentations 1:12c). There may be no pain and suffering so great as the devastation sent by God in his fierce anger.1
