1. Aggée 1:11 (NEG79)
  2. Explication du texte

What is important to see in the reference to “the grain, the new wine, the oil”?

Haggai (Aggée) 1:11 (ESV)

11 And I have called for a drought on the land and the hills, on the grain, the new wine, the oil, on what the ground brings forth, on man and beast, and on all their labors.”

By this reference to the grain, the new wine, and the oil, the Lord makes clear that the effect of the drought will be upon the three staple crops in the land (Deuteronomy 7:13; Deuteronomy 11:14; Jeremiah 31:12; Hosea 2:8). These crops were harvested at different times in the year: the grain of the fields in the spring and the olive oil and new wine of the mountain region in the fall.1 Nothing that the ground yielded would be left unaffected; hence the immediate follow-up to this list: what the ground brings forth.
