Jeremiah indicates his willingness to take their request before the Lord. He seems to understand that the ban on interceding for the people came to an end when judgment came (see Jeremiah 7:16).1 He does, however, make it clear that he will pray to the Lord your God.
He will not allow them to maintain distance from the Lord as if they are not under obligation to listen and obey when their God speaks to them. He also says that whatever the Lord answers you I will tell you. I will keep nothing back from you.
It is as if Jeremiah understands that the Lord is not going to say what these people want to hear.2
