Why will their children “be as they we of old”?

Jérémie 30:20 (NEG79)

20 Ses fils seront comme autrefois, Son assemblée subsistera devant moi, Et je châtierai tous ses oppresseurs.

In the past, in Egypt, Israel had been fruitful and had grown to the point that they became a threat to Pharoah (Exodus 1:7–10). This will happen again. The Lord promises that Their children shall be as they were of old, and their congregation shall be established before me. The Hebrew word eda, translated as congregation, refers to the nation gathered for worship or for political purposes. It describes a nation that is functioning the way the Lord had always intended it to1. The Lord himself will protect any who seek to oppress his people. Never again will they find themselves in the same situation they were in, in Egypt. The failure and sin of his people will not prevent the Lord from fulfilling his covenant promises2.
