Why do the people say to Jeremiah, “Where is the word of the Lord?”

In Jeremiah 17:15–16, Jeremiah laments the situation in which he finds himself. The nature of his troubles and personal turmoil are made clear by his reference to they, I, and you .¹ They refers to the people of Judah who have mocked him and his message. They say to Jeremiah, Where is the word of the Lord? Let it come! Jeremiah has proclaimed a message of judgment and yet judgment has not come. The people treat him as if he is a false prophet. These taunts would have been intensified by the fact that other so-called prophets were assuring the nation that indeed judgment would not come.
