Jesus' profound words are difficult for the disciples to grasp. Philip does not understand Jesus. This man, who had once been called to follow Jesus (John 1:43), now asks, Show us the Father.
He still does not grasp how closely Jesus and the Father are connected. He hears Jesus' words, but their meaning simply would not sink in. He sees Jesus nearby, but where is God the Father to be seen? He does, however, long to see the heavenly Father. A brief glimpse, and that is enough for him. He resembles Moses, who once asked the God who spoke to him, Show me your glory
(Exodus 33:18).
8 Philippe lui dit: Seigneur, montre-nous le Père, et cela nous suffit.
