1. Ésaïe 50:8 (NEG79)
  2. Explication du texte

What do “contend” and “stand up together” mean?

Isaiah (Ésaïe) 50:8 (ESV)

8 He who vindicates me is near. Who will contend with me? Let us stand up together. Who is my adversary? Let him come near to me.

The verb to contend calls to mind some sort of legal controversy, and the one who contends is the legal opponent.1 To stand up together means that those who are contended against each other come to meet in court.
