Because of the Servant’s discipleship, he has wisdom to speak a word that helps those who are weary. The function of that word is not to destroy but to save the world (John 3:17). More specifically, it is for the weary, which includes both Israel and the Gentiles, with Israel exhausted by the exile brought on by their iniquities, and the Gentles laboring under the oppressive burden of idol-religions that afforded no peace to the burdened conscience of the sinner.

4 The Lord GOD has given me the tongue of those who are taught, that I may know how to sustain with a word him who is weary. Morning by morning he awakens; he awakens my ear to hear as those who are taught.
