It could appear as though the Lord had abandoned David. Yet David knows this is not the case. He is confident that he will again have the joy of beholding the face of the Lord. He shows this by saying, literally, I myself, in righteousness, I will behold your face.
The ESV’s as for me
is an appropriate rendering of David’s emphatic speech. It is as if David had said, The calamities and reproaches which I now endure will not prevent me from again experiencing fulness of joy from the fatherly love of God manifested towards me.
1
15 As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness; when I awake, I shall be satisfied with your likeness.
