In this verse, the wicked
is in the plural in the Hebrew. Yet in Psalm 17:13, the same word is used, though in the singular. This seems to suggest that these are enemies of both David and the Lord himself, and that they are united in their way of life as one that is opposite to that of the psalmist’s. Furthermore, they do me violence
(or deal violentyly with me
) and are deadly enemies
(literally, my enemies in soul
). This sounds as though they even want to kill the righteous David. Only the Lord can protect him from such intentions to destroy him.
