2 Samuel 7:1–17 (NEG79)

1 Lorsque le roi habita dans sa maison, et que l'Eternel lui eut donné du repos, après l'avoir délivré de tous les ennemis qui l'entouraient,

The books of 1 and 2 Samuel seek to ask and answer two important questions, namely:

  1. Will kingship help Israel obey the terms of the old covenant and flourish in the Land of Promise?
Kingship will not help if the king is someone who refuses to obey the Lord and walk in his ways.

  2. What kind of king does Israel need?
They need a king who lives in submission to the Lord and leads the people in obedience.

For 2 Samuel 7:1–17, you will explain the context and meaning of the Lord’s promises to David. Make it clear how these promises form the nucleus of biblical hope regarding a coming Messiah and how they influence and shape our reading of Scripture from this point on to the New Testament.
