The Lord affirms that his promise to David stands sure even if his descendants should sin. Human failure will not invalidate promises.1 The Lord will make sure that the line of David continues to endure, that there is always a Davidic king ready to rule.2 That which happened to Saul with his dynasty coming to an end (1 Samuel 13:13–15)3 will not happen to David.4 David’s dynasty will last forever.
