Jehoshapat is mentioned here for the first time. He will remain David’s recorder throughout his reign (see 2 Samuel 20:24) and he will also join Solomon’s court (1 Kings 4:3).1 The task of the recorder was most likely to keep a record of the deeds of David so that future generations can remember and know what the Lord has done (see Psalm 105:5). He would also oversee the archives of official records and disseminate royal commands.2
