What does the gift of exhortation entail?

Romains 12:8 (NEG79)

8 et celui qui exhorte à l'exhortation; que celui qui donne le fasse avec libéralité; que celui qui préside le fasse avec zèle; que celui qui pratique la miséricorde le fasse avec joie.

The fourth example is that of exhortation. The verb used here—parakalein—means both to comfort and to admonish. This entails talking to people, addressing them, examining their situation, and then voicing your opinion with encouragement, admonishment and comfort. In the New Testament this verb is related to what will later be referred to as the pastorate. Some church members actually distinguish themselves by the gift of speaking to others with solicitude. Here too, it is not about the person of the comforter or the admonisher. Rather, the church must benefit from the comfort and the admonition.1
