Interestingly, the word translated here as went
is the same word Nehemiah used in Nehemiah 2:9, but there it is translated as I came.
Clearly, travel of some duration was involved (went
), with the present verse indicating that Nehemiah has (finally) arrived in Jerusalem (came
). Now the identity of the city whose name Nehemiah had declined to mention to the king (Nehemiah 2:3) is explicitly recorded.
11 So I went to Jerusalem and was there three days.
