1. 2 Samuel 1:8 (NEG79)
  2. Explication du texte

Why is it significant that the man who killed Saul was an Amalekite?

2 Samuel 1:8 (NEG79)

8 Et il me dit: Qui es-tu? Je lui répondis: Je suis Amalécite.

The fact that the man identified himself as an Amalekite suggests that he is to be understood as someone who was opposed to Israel. Thus, the words which he spoke to David should not be received as truth.1 There is also an interesting parallel to be seen in the fact that Saul lost his kingship for failing to kill all the Amalekites (1 Samuel 15:9, 1 Samuel 15:26) and now an Amalekite claimed to have ended his life.2
