Why does the Lord call on the land to hear his word?

Jérémie 22:29 (NEG79)

29 Terre, terre, terre, Ecoute la parole de l'Eternel!

This verse (Jeremiah 22:29) makes it clear that the Lord is not speaking to Coniah in Jeremiah 22:28–30, but he is speaking to the whole nation. This follows the similar pattern seen in Jeremiah 21:13–14; Jeremiah 22:20–23 where, in the midst of the Lord condemning the rulers of Judah, he speaks to the nation spelling out the consequences of following faithless kings. This verse simply calls on the nation to hear the Lord’s word of judgment. The threefold repetition of O land, land, land, can be compared to Jeremiah’s repetition of temple of the Lord (Jeremiah 7:4) and Isaiah’s repetition of holy (Isaiah 6:3) and Ezekiel’s repetition of ruin (Ezekiel 21:27).1 In each case, the purpose of the repetition is to make what is said emphatic. In this verse the Lord is making it very clear that the people of Judah must hear his word of judgment against their king and understand what it means for them as a nation.
