As alluded to above, the old prophet directed his sons to bury him next to the man of God. He also proclaims that the prophecy of the man of God was certain to come true. When God speaks, he fulfills his words. The truth of this was shown in the judgment on the man of God himself, but it also would be shown in the distant future when King Josiah of Judah would burn the bones of the idolatrous priests on their illegitimate altar.
As we come to the conclusion of this particular narrative, it is well that we consider the way in which the Lord uses disobedience to him to serve his purposes. Had the man of God been obedient and returned in peace to Judah, his words would be soon forgotten in the northern kingdom. The subsequent rise and fall of different dynasties might appear as the natural ebb and flow of events. Yet, the presence of the grave of this man of God marked a memorial to the certainty of the Lord's judgment upon disobedient Israel, sealed with the death of his disobedient prophets.
31 Après l'avoir enterré, il dit à ses fils: Quand je serai mort, vous m'enterrerez dans le sépulcre où est enterré l'homme de Dieu, vous déposerez mes os à côté de ses os.
