The Lord intervened and sent a prophet, Shemaiah the man of God. God instructed him to prohibit the army from going against the people of Judah, and the reason is that they are related to Israel. In addition to the command, the prophet says that the division of the kingdom is something for which He is responsible.
Given the propensity of God’s Old Testament people to reject the Lord’s commandments, the reaction may appear to us as surprising. The people of Judah, Benjamin, and some others called the rest of the people
took heed to the Lord’s command and returned to their homes and did not go to fight Israel. It is noteworthy to mention that the writer tells us that it was done in obedience to their God and his word through the prophet.
