The journey from Paphos to Perga was about 280 kilometres by ship.1 Typically one would travel first to the harbour town of Attalia and then from there, journey inland to Perga, a distance of 13 kilometres. Perga was a big city with a population close to 100,000 inhabitants.2 It was the capital of the Roman province of Pamphylia.3
