The people gathered in the house consider Peter’s real presence at the gate to be impossible.1 As a result they seek to explain his voice with reference to a common assumption of their day. The Jews believed that every person has a guardian angel (see Psalm 91:11; Matthew 18:10; Hebrews 1:14).2 These angels were thought to bear the image of the person whom they were protecting, making a visible appearance after their death.3
