John responded to Jesus’ promise to come soon with a hearty Amen. Come Lord Jesus!
John’s response is an invitation to the hearers in the seven churches (Revelation 1:3, Revelation 1:11) to reflect on whether they felt the same way. Were hearers in the seven churches in any way guilty of adding to or subtracting from God’s word (see Revelation 2:20 as an example), they would invariably hesitate to join John in calling for Jesus’ speedy return. So John’s call for Jesus’ return is also an invitation to today’s readers to assess whether we add to or subtract from God’s Word.
