How has the Lord made Judah’s widows more in number than the sand of the seas and brought a destroyer against the mothers of young men at noonday?
When the invaders came it was the young fighting men who mostly died making many widows and causing many mothers to lose their sons. The destroyers came at noonday
and the Lord made anguish and terror fall upon them suddenly.
These attacks came unexpectedly and suddenly. The judgment described in Jeremiah 15:7–8 is a reversal of the covenant promise made to Abraham when the Lord said he would make his offspring more numerous than the stars in the sky (Genesis 15:5) or the sand of the sea (Genesis 22:17). But now the Lord has made his people childless and the widows are more in number than the sand of the seas.

8 Ses veuves sont plus nombreuses que les grains de sable de la mer; J'amène sur eux, sur la mère du jeune homme, Le dévastateur en plein midi; Je fais soudain tomber sur elle l'angoisse et la terreur.
